From the Mystic Aquarium

Get Ready for a ROARING Good Time!

Yesterday, we let a pack of T-Rex prowl through the downtown areas of Hartford and Mystic to help announce our new exhibit, Jurassic Giants - A Dinosaur Adventure, opening this April!
Jurassic Giants - A Dinosaur Adventure will take you back in time to encounter breathing, clawing, roaring dinosaurs that come to life. Travel through a family-friendly indoor dinosaur trail featuring 12 animatronic dinosaurs including favorites like stegosaurus, triceratops and, of course, the famous tyrannosaurus rex. You'll learn more about the past and, in turn, discover how to protect the future.
Experience the thrill ONLY at Mystic Aquarium. It promises to be a dino-mite adventure like no other!

TYONEK UPDATE

Through almost daily blog posts, the Aquarium documented Tyonek’s remarkable progress since his rescue back in September.
“It really puts our mission into action and that mission is to inspire people to protect our ocean planet through education, conservation and research,” said Carey Richard, Supervisor of Cetaceans and Pinnipeds. “What better way to do that than to be hands on with an actual conservation effort of a stranded beluga calf from an endangered population.”

As a result of his incredible journey, we used Tyonek’s story as our season finale of Aquarium Rehab.

How many straws are used in the U.S. each day?
A) 1 million

B) 150 million

C) 500 million

The answer may shock you, but according to the National Park Service, nearly 500 million plastic straws are used - and thrown away - every day. That means over 180 billion straws end up in the landfill each year.
You can help to diminish these staggering numbers with a few simple actions: Pass on plastic straws when at restaurants or coffee shops, purchase reusable straws for home or office, and spread the word! As more people skip the straw, fewer straws will pollute our planet.
