‘We are watching treachery
on a historic scale in slow motion and doing nothing’
By Samuel Warde
Reuters reported that “The Trump administration said on Monday it would not
immediately impose additional sanctions on Russia, despite a new law designed
to punish Moscow’s alleged meddling in the 2016 U.S. election, insisting the
measure was already hitting Russian companies.”
Continuing, Reuters reported that:
“Trump, who wanted warmer ties with Moscow and had opposed the legislation as
it worked its way through Congress, signed it reluctantly in August, just six
months into his presidency.”
Under the measure, the
administration faced a deadline on Monday to impose sanctions on anyone
determined to conduct significant business with Russian defense and
intelligence sectors, already sanctioned for their alleged role in the
election.
But citing long time frames
associated with major defense deals, [State Department spokeswoman Heather]
Nauert said it was better to wait to impose those sanctions.
Former criminal investigator,
attorney, and New Hampshire professor Seth Abramson took to Twitter
Tuesday to analyze the matter, retweeting several pertinent posts by
politicians and political analysts to help wade through the complexity of this
decision by the White House to flagrantly ignore the dictates of the
legislative branch – Congress itself.
Continuing that line of reasoning,
Abramson added:
Abramson’s next tweet was a call to
action.
Abramson went on to retweet a post
by Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO).
He also retweeted a post by CNN
Chief National Security Correspondent Jim Sciutto detailing the breakdown in
the House and Senate in regards to the vote to impose those Russian sanctions.
“These were the votes passing
legislation too impose new Russian Sanctions: House: 419-3 Senate: 98-2 Where
is the GOP leadership and rank-and-file on this as Russia continues to meddle?”
As Abramson noted, above:
“We are watching treachery on a historic scale in slow motion and doing NOTHING.”“The second Trump announced he wouldn’t sanction Russia, we should’ve begun marching. The whole nation. 99% of Congress supported the sanctions bill. Trump violated it hoping Russia would help him steal future elections. If that doesn’t send America to the streets, nothing will.”
