You are required to have the Medical Certificate completed by a Physician in order to participate in the Physical Agility test.

TESTING:
Physical Agility Test: Saturday, March 24, 2018 - 0800 hrs at Chariho Middle School, 455B Switch Rd, Wood River Junction (Richmond), RI 02894
- Dress Code for admittance into the physical agility test is a plain white t-shirt and plain blue gym shorts.
- Anyone passing the agility will immediately take the Written Examination at 11:00 a.m.
- Dress Code for admittance into the written examination will be proper business attire.
THERE ARE NO MAKE UP EXAMS, PLEASE PLAN YOU SCHEDULE ACCORDINGLY!
GENERAL DUTIES
- Exercise authority consistent with the obligations imposed by the oath of office.
- Respond to all calls for service, rendering first aid when applicable.
- Aid citizens requesting assistance or information.
- Arrest persons for violating the law or those wanted by other law enforcement agencies.
- Issue traffic citations, enforce motor vehicle laws and parking ordinances.
- Seize, collect, preserve, transport, photograph, and inventory evidence and property taken into custody.
- Maintain weapons and equipment in a state of operational readiness.
- Promptly serve or deliver warrants, summonses, subpoenas, and other official papers.
- Coordinate efforts with other department employees to ensure that team work leads to the successful attainment of police short and long-term goals and objectives.
- Maintain certification with assigned equipment.
- Perform other duties, within the scope of their employment, as assigned by the division commander or Chief of Police.
SALARY
- Starting Salary: $52,304 and a generous benefits package
ABOUT THE TOWN OF CHARLESTOWN & THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
- Seasonal coastal community with a population that triples in the summer months.
- This test is to establish a hiring list for anticipated openings prior to the start of the July 2018 Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at lease twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of application.
- Must have a minimum of 60 college credits, in any course of study from an accredited college or university by the application deadline. In lieu of college credits, candidates may substitute a combination of high school diploma or GED certification and three (3) years of continuous active-duty U.S. Military service or five (5) years of reserve U.S. Military Service or three (3) years of previous full-time law enforcement experience. Candidate must provide an official stamped transcript or Military DD-214.
- Must possess and provide a copy of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and provide a valid copy of your social security card.
- Must be able to successfully pass a written examination, physical agility and psychological test based on Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy standards.
- Must be able to successfully pass an extensive background security check.
TESTING REQUIREMENTS
- Upon successful passing of the Physical Agility test you will then be invited to sit for the Written Exam immediately following.
- Upon successful passing of the Written Exam, you will then be invited to sit for an interview at a date to be determined.
