Afterschool Meals for Kids in Need
The Food Bank helps ensure those at-risk of hunger have access to nutritious food in many ways. Through the Kids Cafe program, we serve healthy meals to kids enrolled in the afterschool program at the Boys and Girls Club of East Providence and the West End Community Center in Providence. The meals are prepared by students in the Food Bank’s Community Kitchen, a culinary job-training program that prepares unemployed adults for food service jobs.

Filling the Gap During School Vacation
When schools are closed for snow days, vacation breaks and summer, kids miss out on meals available to them through the National School Lunch Program. To help fill the gap left by the missing meals, the Food Bank distributes Meals4Kids boxes to families in need. The boxes are filled with kid-friendly foods that are easy to prepare and are available through local community centers, food pantries and health centers.
