of things to do at the Mystic Aquarium this summer
Conservation events in May kick-off with another installment of Nature Play in the Green and continues with a variety of fun, family-friendly happenings all month long.
Aquarium
guests are welcome to join Mystic Aquarium educators on the Sea School Green
this Saturday, May 5 for salamander day as part of Nature Play in the Green.
From 10:00am to 12:00pm, learn about amphibians while searching for different species throughout the Marsh Trek then make a backyard habitat for these amazing animals. Salamander day is free for Aquarium members and with admission.

On Wednesday, May 16, meet with other nature play loving families from 5:30 to 7:30pm for Picnic in the Park. Join Mystic Aquarium staff at Barn Island for a pizza dinner at Connecticut’s largest wildlife management area. Then, go crabbing, search for shore birds and enjoy nature. Picnic in the Park is $10 per family (up to four individuals) and $3 for each additional guest.

efforts in place to help save some of our most threatened species during Endangered
Species Day.
On Friday, May 18 from 11:00am to 3:00pm, Aquarium members and paying guests can enjoy special activities throughout the Main Gallery where they’ll learn about featured species at risk and ways to help protect them and their habitats.

Then,
the following week, Mystic Aquarium is recognizing its local estuary in style
during their Long Island Sound Celebration on Friday, May 25 and
Saturday, May 26. Each day from 11:00am to 3:00pm, guests will enjoy hands-on
activities and crafts and can join in special programs. Activities are included
with Aquarium admission.
Round
out the final week of May with a family favorite during a nighttime Horseshoe
Crab Watch at Napatree Point in Westerly, RI. Join Aquarium staff at the
beach on Tuesday, May 29 to search for these “living fossils” from 6:30 to
9:30pm.
Participants should be prepared to get their feet wet and hike a distance as they help Aquarium staff count the animals on the beach and learn about their role in our local ecosystem. Program cost is $5 per person.
