Two more healed seals get a Charlestown send-off

Mystic Aquarium’s Animal Rescue Program Releases Two More Seals
Stevi Bramich

Two more seals returned to their ocean environment this morning at Blue Shutters Beach in Charlestown following several months’ worth of rehabilitation at Mystic Aquarium’s Animal Rescue Clinic.

Both seals were welcomed by a large group of community supporters, warm weather and an inviting sea.

Plum, a male gray seal, and Ibiza, a female gray seal, were rescued by the Marine Mammals of Maine in February and March, respectively.

Plum was rescued in Bailey’s Island, ME and was transferred to the clinic to receive treatment for an upper respiratory infection.

Ibiza was rescued from Portland, ME and received treatment for dehydration and a wound on her abdomen.

Following their rehab at Mystic Aquarium, both seals, now approximately 4-5 months old, were deemed healthy and ready to return to their ocean environment.
