Anyone
who has ever met Robert Malin has felt his positive exuberance as he tackled a
range of environmental and social justice issues.
Complications
from cancer including pneumonia and infection led to his transfer to
hospice care in Boston and his death.
A
GoFundMe Cancer Treatment Fund has been set up on Robert’s behalf – CLICK HERE –
that, among other things, helped his wife Marie stay up in Boston to be
close by. And now there are the funeral expenses.
Even
Robert’s political opponents in the Charlestown Citizens Alliance (CCA) have
pitched in to help. Kudos to George Tremblay for being a class act and making
the pitch in the CCA blog.
Ironically, one of Robert’s last political acts was to seek appointment to the Charlestown City Council to fill a vacancy caused after one of their members resigned.
Robert
was viewed by many as next in line to receive the appointment. He got the sixth
largest vote count for the 5-member council in his 2016 bid running as a
Democrat.
Instead,
the CCA-controlled Town
Council decided instead to appoint one of its own, asking former Council
member George Tremblay to return to take the slot.
Tremblay has had his own health problems, having suffered a stroke just over a year ago – from which he has recovered.

But
that’s now water under the bridge as Charlestown residents spanning the town’s
yawning political chasm have pitched in the help Robert and Marie.
