Progressives endorse Brown for Governor

Endorsements come ahead of Sunday State Democratic Convention

Image result for matt brown rhode islandThe Rhode Island Progressive Democrats are excited to announce our endorsement of Gubernatorial Candidate, Matt Brown! Matt is running on a platform very similar to Bernie Sanders and we are thrilled that he is ready to give this state the attention it deserves.

Matt Brown’s Platform specifically consists of

1. Pushing to create an economy that works for you and I. Not Wall Street and its investment bankers.
2. Converting the state to 100% renewable energy

3. $15 minimum wage
4. Repealing tax cuts for the 1%
5. Crediting RI citizens with rebate checks for the renewable energy sent to surrounding states (because no corporation owns the sun and wind)

6. Restoring full Medicaid funding and pushing for a state-wide Medicare for All system
7. Reinstating the COLA pension plans
8. Expanding reproductive freedom

Matt has pledged not to take contributions from fossil fuel companies or corporate PACs and lobbyists.

For too long decisions in Rhode Island have either been made by the ultra elite or establishment democrats and with your help Matt will change that for good.

September’s primary is less than 90 days away, and while we hope you enjoy your summer, we also hope you remember Matt Brown on Wednesday, September 12th.

In solidarity,
Your Rhode Island Progressive Democrats

IndivisibleRI has also endorsed Brown. Here is their endorsement statement:

Matt has spent his life working to bring people together from all backgrounds and across partisan divides to solve big problems that matter in people’s lives.

Twenty-five years ago, he co-founded and led City Year Rhode Island, which has enlisted thousands of young people ages 18-25 to tutor and mentor elementary and middle school children and meet critical needs in our communities. City Year has grown to 28 cities across the country.

As Rhode Island Secretary of State for four years, Matt increased government transparency and dramatically improved Rhode Island’s elections system, by building the state’s first computerized voter registration system and launching Motor Voter e-Registration, a first-in-the-nation electronic voter registration system.

Eleven years ago, Matt co-founded Global Zero, an international organization that works to reduce the catastrophic risk of nuclear confrontation and seeks the ultimate elimination of nuclear weapons worldwide. Global Zero has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Matt and his wife, Marisa, live in Providence with their two children, Ella (12) and Walker (9).
