CRU urges Charlestown residents to attend Monday night budget hearing

Dear Friend,

On Monday, May 6, at 7 pm the Charlestown Town Council will hold a public hearing on the proposed 2019-2020 budget.

The Budget Commission has submitted the town's tentative budget which includes a $3,095,000 line item to be transferred to a "Construction" Fund. The Town Council majority (CCA) has indicated that they want to use this fund to construct a Community Recreation Senior Center. As of now, this item will be included in the budget.

There is currently NO plan for a Community Recreation Senior Center although it is listed in the budget. And items such as construction of buildings are usually done through bonds, and paid for over several years.

We believe that a healthy, open, discussion of alternative plans for Ninigret Park is in the best interest of the Town. That can best be done through an Ad Hoc Committee holding those discussions without being directed to ignore certain options.

This budget hearing Monday night is your chance to ask questions and voice your opinions on this budget item.

See more information and opinions on our website here.

Thank you, Charlestown Residents United
