Two seals to be released in Charlestown tomorrow.

WHEN: 10:00am, Thursday, May 2, 2019

WHERE: Blue Shutters Beach, East Beach Rd., Charlestown, RI

WHAT:  Coming off the heels of a busier-than-usual gray seal pup season, Mystic Aquarium’s Animal Rescue Program is happy to announce the release of two young seals.

Wilder, a yearling female harp seal, was rescued by the Aquarium’s team in Westerly, RI; just miles down the coastline from the site of her pending release. In early January, she was transported to the Animal Rescue Clinic to receive treatment for dehydration and help increase her body weight.

Nikumaroro, a 3-4 month old male gray seal, was rescued in Brewster, MA by the International Fund for Animal Welfare. He was transferred to Mystic Aquarium’s clinic at the end of January where he received treatment for dehydration and to help increase his body weight.

Both seals now weigh more than 60 pounds each and have been deemed ready for life at sea.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the nature of the event, seal release dates and times may change without notice.
