Farm delivers 100 tons of fresh produce
Franklin Farm
Community Garden in Cumberland reached a milestone last week. Since the
volunteer-run community farm began 13.5 years ago, they have grown 100 tons
of fresh produce that they’ve distributed to neighbors in need through the
Rhode Island Community and its member agencies.

Rescuing instead of wasting
Each year, the Rhode
Island Community Food Bank rescues more than 1.4 million pounds of food by
partnering with local retailers and farms. One of the trailblazers in this
effort is RICAN, our member agency in Charlestown, RI, that recently received
funding through the Food Bank to purchase and outfit a refrigerated, fuel
efficient truck equipped with a power rear lift to aid in their efforts.

Partners make the difference
Nearly one-third of
the food acquired by the Rhode Island Community Food Bank is purchased. We
rely on the generous donations of individuals and corporate partners to help
us deliver 11.6 million pounds of food to neighbors in need each year. Take a
look at some of the community partners and friends who make our work
possible.
