When URI
students paddled this section during spring, they identified many
different birds from sight and sound. Downy woodpeckers, purple
martins, yellow warblers, white-breasted nuthatch, belted kingfisher...
the list goes on and on! As part of the national Wild and Scenic River
System, the Upper Wood River is designated "wild" due to the
lack of development and abundance of wildlife... including birds!
Get out on the
water this June with birding expert Laura Carberry of Audubon Society
of RI and paddling expert and naturalist, Denise Poyer, long time WPWA
staff member, now retired.
