It’s
good to see an ever-increasing number of non-profit and public interest jobs
listed on Rhode Island Community Jobs, sponsored by the Swearer Center for Public Service at
Brown University. It’s really one of the best – maybe the only – comprehensive listing
of non-profit job openings in the state.
Every
evening after midnight, I get the daily listings. You can sign up by clicking HERE. I was
especially interested to see three of them available at Tri-County Community
Action Agency. They also have openings in others parts of the state.

Head Start Program - Southern Region
Full-time (30 Hours per week) Part Year
General Responsibility: Ensure a safe, healthy learning environment for children ages 3-5.
Specific Responsibilities: Assisting in providing classroom coverage where needed. Providing an environment that is socially and emotionally supportive to children and their families. Assisting the teaching staff, as directed, in conducting daily, age-appropriate activities for the children. Helping with the necessary steps to implementing mealtime. Eating with and assisting children in the development of social and self-help skills and sound nutritional practices. Giving assistance to the teaching staff, as directed, in preparing, setting up, conducting and cleaning up daily, age-appropriate activities for the children.
Qualifications: Associates Degree Early Childhood Education (preferred) or Preschool CDA. Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards certificate preferred.
Special Qualifications: Be at least 18 years of age. Become CPR/First Aid certified with the first 2 months of hire. 1-2 years of preschool experience preferred. Must be able to work in a team environment with staff and families, be creative, and have good communication and leadership skills. Willingness to be flexible to meet the needs of the program.

Specific Responsibilities: Be knowledgeable about developmentally appropriate practices and the Head Start Performance Standards, planning according to the individual needs of each child, completing education paperwork, conducting developmental assessments, documenting assessment data in the web-based data management system, conducting observations of children daily, encouraging family engagement in the program, conducting home visits per the Performance Standards, maintaining a safe and healthy environment, providing Responsive Caregiving to all children and promoting the school readiness of children and families in the program.
Qualifications: Associates Degree Early Childhood Education or Preschool CDA. Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards certificate preferred.
Special Qualifications: Applicants must be skilled in building positive relationships with children, families and colleagues. Experience is a must.
