Charlestown state Rep disrespects Dr. Nicole Alexander-Smith after her resignation as Health Dept. Director

Others hail Alexander-Smith hailed for her service to Rhode Island

On January 13, Dr. Nicole Alexander-Smith submitted her unexpected resignation as the state’s Health Director. Most observers across the political spectrum felt she had done a great job despite resistance and hesitation from our accidental Gov. Dan McKee who generally seems to believe you can make the pandemic go away by closing your eyes real tight.

The disagreement between Alexander-Smith and McKee over whether public health was more important than small business was barely disguised though in her resignation letter, Alexander-Smith kept it classy.

Her surprise announcement immediately drew comment from among other Rhode Island officials.

General Treasurer and candidate for Governor Seth Magaziner issued this statement:

His rival to replace McKee, State Secretary Nelly Gorbea criticized McKee for the loss of such a valuable public servant:

Helen Foulkes, the CVS executive making a quixotic run for Governor released this statement: 

And then finally we come to Rep. Blake “Flip” Filippi, who represents Charlestown in his own unique fashion and is also the Leader of the tiny House Trumplican Caucus. He released this smarmy statement that was only missing a “don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out” coda:

"Fresh perspective" indeed. What do you have in mind, Flip? Have people drink urine and bleach and take hydroxychloroquine? Ignore masks? Reject the vaccine?
