Monday night Council meeting: Watch the CCA try to explain their financial foul-ups

Fellow Residents of Charlestown,

Spend your Valentines Night with the Charlestown Town Council to show your love for the town!

Who needs flowers and chocolates? Tune in to the council meeting and watch as:

·     the Town Auditors try to explain where the "missing" $3 Million went,

·     the Budget Commission tries to convince us that we need an Unassigned Fund Balance (surplus) of 33% of our Town's Budget, a/k/a $10 Million, as part of a proposed (much needed) Fund Balance Policy,

·     the 3 CCA Town Council members refuse to give good reasons for voting to remove items placed on the Council Meeting Agenda by Deb Carney!!

·     Deb calls for a forensic audit into "missing" $3 Million Dollars and the 3 CCA Town Council members say 'forensic' was too insulting a word,

·     the 3 CCA Town Council members try to explain why an independent study of how the $3 million "went missing" is not a good idea.

All kidding aside, these are important times for our Town and we need to get involved in these meetings and voice our opinions. Tell the Council you

·     want a proper investigation into the $3 million dollars,

·     want a proper fund balance policy instead of the Budget Commission's proposal,

·     think food trucks at Ninigret Park during events is a good idea,

·     think maybe a Town Council member living next to Ninigret Park has a conflict of interest for Ninigret Park matters,

·     would like an alternative to the now canceled Rhythm and Roots,

·     want the Council to act in public, and

·     want each Council member to be allowed to place any matters they choose on the Agenda for public discussion!

And then eat the chocolates!

Town Council meetings are only available online - information here.

(If the state changes the public meeting rules before the meeting, this meeting may change to in-person only or hybrid, virtual and in-person. We suggest checking the Town website and the Virtual Town Meetings page before the meeting.)
