FALL 2023   Dear Members & Friends,  As we close another busy spring & summer season, we'd like to thank you for your patronage. For those of you who would like to visit CHS during the winter months, please remember that we are open all year by appointment and are happy to accommodate your requests per the CHS email below.                          We'd also like to thank all of our members and supporters for your annual dues and donations in 2023. We are most appreciative of the community who have enabled the CHS to care for two special buildings, and pursue our mission to "Learn, Teach and Preserve the History of Charlestown, Rhode Island."     Murder & Mayhem in Washington County, Rhode Island By Kelley Sullivan Pezza Saturday, November 11th, 2:00 PM Quonnie Grange, Charlestown, RI       This presentation is jointly cosponsored by the Charlestown, Westerly, Richmond, Hopkinton and Quonochontaug Historical Societies, along with the Friends of the Quonnie Grange  Kelly Sullivan Pezza is the author of several books including, "Hidden History of South County", and hundreds of newspaper columns.  "Washington County hides a dark past riddled with macabre crimes and despicable deeds. Senator Charles Burdick shot and left for dead at his Charlestown home; the new wife of the heir to the RJ Reynolds Tobacco fortune hiding in Watch Hill following his murder, and even the small peaceful villages with a veritable rap sheet from thieving maids to speakeasies".  Kelley's books will be available for purchase and signing by the author at this event. The event is free and open to the public. Donations accepted at the door.       Charlestown Holiday Ramble Please join us on Friday, December 1st, for this annual holiday tradition along the Old Post Road. Throw on your hats and scarves and share an evening of community and festivity. CHS will be open from 5:00 to 9:00 pm.
