Open enrollment period begins through HealthSource RI

Rhode Island's Obamacare program ready to help

By Janine L. Weisman, Rhode Island Current

Open enrollment began Nov. 1, to enroll in, change or renew health and dental care coverage through Rhode Island’s health insurance marketplace, HealthSource RI.

There are two other dates to remember: Enrollment will end Jan. 31, 2024, but if you want coverage to begin Jan. 1, you must pick and pay for coverage by Dec. 23.

You can enroll up until Jan. 31 for coverage that starts Feb. 1, 2024.

Individuals and families can enroll at HealthSourceRI.com/OE or by calling 1-855-840-HSRI (1-855-840-4774).

More than 32,000 individuals are enrolled in health plans through HealthSource RI. Since 2013, HSRI has decreased the uninsured rate by more than two thirds, and in 2022, 97% of Rhode Islanders had health coverage.

HealthSource RI is the only place Rhode Islanders can receive financial help to pay for their health coverage. Six out of seven HealthSource RI customers receive financial assistance, including nearly $9.6 million in Advance Premium Tax Credits (APTC). Nearly a third of customers pay less than $20 per month for their health coverage.

HealthSource RI offers a Plan Comparison and Savings Tool, which lets families estimate their monthly premium and out-of-pocket costs, identify financial help and find in-network doctors.

“Rhode Island is a national leader in health coverage, and in this vital time for staying covered, the health and well-being of each and every Rhode Islander remains a priority,” said Gov. Dan McKee.

“We’re fortunate that HealthSource RI continues to provide Rhode Islanders with affordable options for high-quality coverage. Applying is easy and I encourage Rhode Islanders in need of health coverage to compare plans and find the one that works best for them.”

Under the American Rescue Plan Act, many HealthSource RI customers may qualify for financial help to lower their monthly coverage cost – even those who weren’t eligible in the past.

To learn more about coverage options, HealthSource RI is holding several virtual information sessions . The first is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2. To sign up, or to find information on other info sessions, go to HealthSourceRI.com/events.

Call center hours are regularly Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and are expanded during the open enrollment period to include evening hours on Tuesday until 9 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon.

During these hours, HealthSource RI also has live web chat services available on HealthSourceRI.com, in both English and Spanish where individuals can ask questions, reset their passwords, and get enrollment support from a live expert.
