Upcoming Charlestown Town Council meeting
Fellow Charlestown Residents,
The Charlestown Town Council will have their second regular meeting of the month on Monday, September 23, at 7:00 p.m. in the Town Hall Council Chambers. The agenda can be read here. Some important topics for the meeting are:
Discussion and Potential Action concerning Emergency Repairs to the West Wall of the Charlestown Breachway by RMA Environmental for an Amount Not to Exceed $500,000. Many details of the proposed work can be seen starting at page 33 of the agenda packet.
The Council is holding the public hearing for zoning changes for Public Storage Units. The ordinance details can be read starting at page 84 of the agenda packet.
The Council will have a discussion about the current red-light camera system on Post Road.
Charlestown's Planning Commission will meet on Wednesday, September 25, starting at 7 p.m. in the Council chambers. One item on the agenda that is certain to generate a lot of discussion around town is a pre-application discussion for a possible development of 416 residential units on an approximately 80 acre property on Ross Hill Road. The materials for that discussion can be read starting on page 41 of the agenda packet. It is important to read the introductory memo by Town Planner Jane Weidman before making conclusions about this.
Charlestown's Senior Citizens Commission begins a 6-week speaker series on Tuesday, September 24. Each session will cover essential topics, providing valuable insights and practical advice to help seniors maintain their autonomy and quality of life. Learn more and see the full schedule here. The Westerly Sun also had an article which can be read here. (That article misspelled the email address for questions, which should be seniors@charlestownri.gov)
